Transforming the cross into beauty

Children placing fresh flowers on the wooden cross at the front of the sanctuary

Typically on Easter Sunday, a bare wire cross stands at the front of our sanctuary. It is not pretty. It is meant to be stark, a reminder that what Jesus went through on the cross was not a beautiful thing.

But Easter doesn't end at the cross. As we remember the gift He gave us, His love, His forgiveness and new life, the meaning of that cross begins to change.

Every member places a flower

Flowers are given to every member of the congregation. One by one, children and adults come forward and place their flower on the cross. Little by little, the bare wire disappears beneath color and life.

By the end, the whole congregation has come together to embrace that cross, and something barren has been transformed into something beautiful. It's a picture of what Jesus does in our lives every day of the year.

You are invited

Families and children are always welcome to join us and help transform the cross into beauty.
