Our story
A Reformed Church in Sonoma Since 1945: Our Story

If you have walked down Chase Street in Sonoma, you have likely noticed the church building. The story starts a few miles up the road, in 1945.
1945: Grace Reformed Church
The first worship gathering was held June 10, 1945, at the Sonoma-Vista Improvement Club House in Boyes Springs. The congregation was called Grace Reformed Church. On September 13, 1945, the church worshiped outdoors on the property where it still meets. The Chase Street building followed within a few years. You can read more on our history.
The name later became Sonoma Valley Community Church. The year of that change is not posted here until it is confirmed. The aim stayed the same: to express the love of God to the surrounding community.
What a Sunday is like now
Sunday worship is at 10:30 AM. We sing, pray, read and teach from the Bible, and share the Lord's Supper once a month. Music uses a baby grand piano and talented worship leaders. The church also hosts blood drives with Vitalant, more than 500 units since 2022, and our shoebox ministry packed 402 shoeboxes in 2024.
What Reformed means here
Sonoma Valley Community Church is a Christian, Protestant church in the Reformed Church in America. We are not a Catholic church. In brief, we believe the Bible is God's Word and our guide, that God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, that Jesus died and rose again, and that salvation is a gift of grace received through faith. The fuller summary is on what we believe.
